"the world outside..." is my entry for the "3d makes me"-contest. it is depicting the emotion fear, fear of the world, fear of the others, fear of oneself.
i'd say 3d does not make me afraid but it helps me to cope with such feelings, allowing me to kind of "materialise" the worlds of my mind.
actually there is some story behind this picture (which even explains why there's a wooden window on a skyscraper), but you may think up your own...
i modeled this in cinema4d and did some postwork in photoshop.
alltogether it took me a lot of time and if you want to see at least a few of the details i've put into this you can check out a bigger version in my scraps.
I absolutely know what you mean with the hard work part. Cinema4D is good and efficient, but you have to fiddle a lot with it. That's why, and after taking a look at the larger scrap of this work, I need to this. You really put some effort in this one.
The mood, atmosphere and whole ensemble is just plain perfect.
2 questions though...
How long have you been working with c4d.
And was the dark gap of lightlessness intentional where the person sits? (forgot how the pro words are in english)
thanks a lot, i'm glad you like it!
to answer your two questions:
i've been working with c4d for about a year and theis was my first real project to be brought to an end. but i've done 3d-stuff befor (mainly with monzoom).
as for the dark space around the person, that was indeed intentional (or i would've lightened it), but it's not due to postwork but simply because there is not much light shining into that corner of the room. and of cause it helpes to hide my badly modled character.
Amazing scene, especially I like light here. It looks really realistic also angle looks very interesting - like from hide-cam I almost feel the atmosphere of this place. Nice textures... overall, wonderful job!
first thing that caught my eye was the lightbulb and the shadows it casts. And the character... the face is not visible so i focused on his hands. Does he have bandages on his wrists? Except the lighting, all those rubbish look very good. Also I like this spherical camera view. If you wanted to express fear, you have done it very well
the main work was done in cinema4d (r9.0). i rendered it in about 10 passes (one for each light, an ao-pass, a z-map,...) and did the compositing and some other things like dof in photoshop.
thanks a lot for your comment. i'm glad you like it.
the textures of the walls, the floor and the ceiling i composed from a lot of photos of concrete. i touched it all up in body-paint and added dirt in the corners. in addition there is a procedural texture overlayed (i used a lot of them in this).
thanks to you for adding this to your favs.
This is so well done. [I think you should've gotten more than a little recognition, btw..] I love all the detail work, my eyes just keep going round and round the piece. I love how you went so far as to put the light shining through the water bottle. THAT made my jaw drop. It reminds me of the fine CG from the Final Fantasy movies. I <3 the take out box. ^_^ The hooks and wire on the wall.. And I rather like the window scene. It makes it look the world is normal and harmless, yet this person has some strong emotions going on that he just does not want to be involved with it.
